The Woods

I am woken at dawn by golden rays creeping through my tent

flickering on the walls saying their friendly good morning

the birds are chirping softly

I hear the rush of babbling water in the distance

I sleepily stumble outside and stretch my arms to the sky

throwing my head back and breathing in the fresh air

the smell of pine, cold water, and dirt swirl around me

eagles are circling me miles overhead,

the guardians of the mountains

I look to my left and see the greenest hills rolling

miles from civilization

abandoned yet accepted

free

I feel a sense of peace wash over me

here I am raw

here I am real

stripped down to my truest form

no judgemnet

no media

no shame

just the earth beneath my feet

the innocence of nature accepting me

asking me to join it

I make a fire and stare into the crackling flames

feeling all of my worries wash away slowly like words written in a shoreline

realizing how small my problems actually are

feeling so full and so whole

I am truly alive again
